i have watched Cenins' work for a long time.
her art always seems to evolve, change, but it always has her particular style involved, and is instantly recognizable to me as one of her beautiful drawings.
Again, this latest drawing is very beautiful in its own right. i have always loved to follow her intricate line work around on the page. This one even has a male figure in it (a very wolly looking Marx),which is a departure of sorts in that her subjects are usally female. Cenin has from the first pushed her drawings further and further, and this one has an exploratory aspect about it.
Cenins' lines take on a life of their own in her drawings, and in this latest the lines are doing all sorts of interesting things. i love the lines. You have carl with his lines to the left in a pattern that reminds me of garden rows, then you have no doubt what is on his mind with the hammer and scythe. Also he has the creepy heart lines slithering around the arm of ms. universe like he may have other ideas.
the lovely ms universe is doing a curtsy, beautifully drawn, and reminds me somewhat of the artist. her line shapes are very nice ,the dress with some wonderfully drawn patterns and lineshapes. ms. universe has her own vocabulary of lines ,which ive given meaning, and her gardenrowelike lines to the right like carls really ground the composition.
im hardly a critic, but i know what i like, and ive always liked these picutures. these drawings always have such a lively kinetic energy, which i enjoy seeing.
the Cenin growing evolving with each drawing ,the lastest always different and better in some way than the last
i always make up my own story for her pictures.
her drawings always catch my eye and imagination.

the title and the drawing seem to me to put two very different ideologys side by side in a vortex of dancing lines, and contridiction.wonderful.
very well done.

I love this :) How Marx projected himself onto the world, and that Ms. Universe looks a little shocked.
